This luxury property in Portland, Oregon, transformed a high-maintenance property into a clean, refined landscape that looks sharp year-round without the constant upkeep. A Smarter Surface
The centerpiece of this project was a full synthetic turf installation spanning approximately 3,935 square feet across both the front and backyard. This was not a shortcut. It was a deliberate design decision for a homeowner who wanted a clean, green look without the watering, mowing, and seasonal headaches that come with natural grass in the Pacific Northwest.
Every edge was locked in with 6-inch landscape spikes for a tight, clean perimeter. Bark mulch pathways and river rock accents were added to frame the turf and create visual contrast between materials. The project also included the option for a putting green integration, giving the homeowner the flexibility to add a personal touch down the road.
We installed the MSI Viridian 91 oz. turf system, a premium product chosen for its realistic appearance, durability, and long-term performance. Beneath it, we built a properly compacted crushed gravel base to ensure solid drainage and prevent shifting over time. Sand infill and power-broom finishing gave the surface its final natural texture and feel.
Finishing the Full Picture
Great landscapes are not built in a single pass. Once the turf was in place, we returned for a targeted round of enhancements designed to bring the rest of the property up to the same standard. Rather than starting over, we focused on strategic upgrades that improved performance, aesthetics, and overall cohesion.
The irrigation system received a full round of repairs, adjustments, and upgrades to ensure every planting zone was covered properly. We brought in 175 gallons of new plant material and installed fresh soil to give those plants the best possible start. Approximately 29 yards of bark mulch were laid across the property for a clean, finished look and improved moisture retention.
River rock and basalt boulder detailing added depth and natural texture throughout the yard. We also installed roughly 250 feet of low-voltage lighting and wiring to bring the space to life after dark. A custom slab pathway, built using existing materials on-site, connected the space thoughtfully without introducing anything that felt out of place.
